Chantry Dance Presents...

THE IMPRISONED MOON

Coming to Grantham and Stamford in April 2021

We could not be more thrilled to announce our latest performance work!

Using dance, circus and theatre to bring one of these wonderful tales to life, Chantry Dance presents our latest show in development, The Imprisoned Moon.

The Imprisoned Moon is a Lincolnshire folktale that tells of the time the Moon came down from the sky to walk over the Lincolnshire Carrland. The soft light of her shining hair saved a lone traveller from falling into the marshy ground so he could return safely to his village. This angered the Carr’s bogles who seized the poor Moon and held her captive, plunging the village into darkness and terrifying the folk as the bogles could now roam freely. The traveller, guided by the light of a Will O’the Wisp, returned to the Carrland to rescue the Moon, so her light could forevermore keep the bogles at bay and keep the villagers safe.

With stunning aerial hoop acrobatics and contemporary dance, Chantry will be presenting the full-length version of The Imprisoned Moon in April 2021 in Grantham and Stamford.

Introducing....  BOYHOOD'S END
Picture

Paul and Rae are shortly to open Tippett's 'Boyhood's End' as part of English Touring Opera's Lyric Solitude season (programme 3). They have created a response in dance to Hudson's text and Tippett's music, which Paul is dancing in as the physical representation of the tenor (Tom Elwin's) voice.

The piece is a cantata which, alongside three other pieces, makes up the programme

Announcing.....

Our original ballet coming (a little later than planned) to a theatre near you!

The Little Mermaid

Tour rescheduled due to COVID 19 - new dates will be announced as soon as we're able to!

THE LITTLE MERMAID will be on tour to cities around the UK from September, also playing under the title AQUARIA, THE SEA-MAID'S TALE in Lincoln.

Chantry Dance has taken the story of everyone's favourite mermaid, and given it a beautiful new twist in the tale.

At Princess Aquaria's coming-of-age birthday, she is given permission by the Sea-King to visit the World Above. Swimming to the surface, she is fascinated by the humans that she sees.

A folk band, The Sandcastles, are playing on the beach. As their music reaches Aquaria's ears, she falls in love with the melodies and the dancing. She is also enthralled by the charismatic leader of the band, the guitarist Calder (a real prince of music). Sadly she has to return to the Underwater Kingdom.
But Aquaria and Calder's fates have become intertwined.

Following a windsurfing accident, Aquaria rescues Calder, and falls deeply in love with him. She makes a grave bargain with the Sea-Witch, trading her voice for a pair of human legs so she can be with Calder.
But as we all know, nothing is ever that simple, and Aquaria will have to overcome many struggles to be with her true love, including the jealous rivalry of The Sandcastles' lead singer, being captured by unscrupulous fishermen, and of course the loss of her voice to the Sea-Witch.

Join Chantry for this year's must-see show, featuring stunning contemporary choreography, acrobatics, beautiful costumes and an international cast of exceptional dancers, including RAE PIPER & PAUL CHANTRY as Aquaria and Calder (choreographers of David Walliams' Olivier-nominated West End hit show 'Gangsta Granny' and 'Billionaire Boy') and SHANNON PARKER as the Sea-Witch (San Francisco Ballet, Northern Ballet Theatre and Britain's Got Talent).

After the huge success of BSC's Olivier Award nominated Gangsta Granny, choreographed by Chantry Dance's co-Directors, Rae Piper and Paul Chantry, Rae and Paul were delighted to have been invited back to the Birmingham Stage Company as choreographers for their new stage production of David Walliams' 'Billionaire Boy'.

Billionaire Boy opened in September at The Capitol in Horsham, and will be on tour throughout the UK until September 2020. The show has been extremely well received so far, and Rae and Paul have received a number of reviews for their expert choreography:

  • "Jak Poore creates a mischievous score and, if the songs are catchy rather than complex, they are bolstered by choreography from Paul Chantry and Rae Piper" THE STAGE - Paul Vale
  • “Energetic choreography from Paul Chantry and Rae Piper”  THEATRE WEEKLY - Greg Stewart
  • "the songs remain relevant and the catchy tunes and choreography are lighthearted and entertaining to keep the story bouncing along." BATH AND WILTSHIRE PARENT - Susy Douch
